Dr. Venu Prabaker has spent more than three decades trying to flip that equation — building a career around care that is proactive, preventive, and predictive, long before those words became industry buzzwords. Whether at the bedside, in the classroom, or in the boardroom, his focus has never wavered: catch problems early, empower patients, and build systems that make good health the path of least resistance.
For 35 years, Dr. Prabaker practiced aggressive preventive medicine in La Mesa, California, earning patient ratings between 4.5 and 5.0 stars across the top healthcare review platforms and a nine-year streak as one of San Diego’s top-rated primary care physicians. As Assistant Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program with the Case Western Reserve affiliated program in Cleveland, and as clinical faculty across 18 universities — including UCSD, UCI, USC, Stanford, and Yale — he has shaped the next generation of physicians, welcoming residents, medical students, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners into his practice every month for over thirty years.
But Dr. Prabaker’s impact reaches well beyond the exam room. A serial healthcare entrepreneur, he founded CareMed Corp, which developed one of the country’s first Windows-based electronic health record systems, and later co-founded WellConnectMDs, delivering chronic and remote patient monitoring to 20,000 patients nationwide. He co-founded My Own MD, later acquired by Humana, and today leads Pinnacle Nexus, a venture and media platform championing proactive, preventive, and predictive care. He now chairs the advisory boards of a new generation of healthcare startups — from AI-driven diagnostics to digital therapeutics — mentoring the founders building what comes next.
Dr. Prabaker is equally at home building community. He co-founded and chaired the San Diego Physicians of Indian Origin for 15 years, served 18 years on the San Diego County Medical Society, and co-founded the American Tamil Nadu Medical Association. Today he chairs the Indian Cultural Leadership Council of San Diego and sits on the boards of the San Diego Indian American Society, TiE San Diego, and Grow Further.
